Name Rachel Hardin
Occupation Corporate Communications, Quintiles

Who do you live with Husband (John) corgi (Harry)
What’s your sign Taurus

Describe your style in 3 words Country club gypsy --my much smarter little sister coined this term and I think it is a perfect way to describe the mishmash of prep and gypset tendencies in our style choices

Favorite things in your house The antique serpentine secretary passed down to us from John’s grandmother; my Sally King Benedict ‘Face’ painting from Furbish; our chintz loveseats- comfortable and quirky.

Sell us on corgis As Tasha Tudor writes in ‘Corgiville Fair,’ an illustrated children’s book, “Corgis are small dogs, the color of foxes. They have short legs and no tails. They are enchanted. You need only see them by moonlight to realize this.” Enough said.

Heels or flats Heels

Favorite places to score finds for your home Furbish (duh!), Studio 123, estate sales, Craigslist and local antique stores like Hunt & Gather

Fool proof dinner party tip Ask your guest to open a bottle of wine upon their arrival- everyone wants to help when they get to your party and this gives them something to do. Plus, I really want the damn wine.

What surprises you about Raleigh There is a vibrant and powerful group of entrepreneurial women here who are not only infusing creativity and innovation in our local culture through the work they do, but they are incredible supporters of one another and the community in which they are based. Over the past few years, I’ve served on a number of non-profit boards and I’ve been blown away by the energy and unconditional support offered by Raleigh businesses like Parlor Blow Dry Bar, Hyla DeWitt Jewelry, and Edge of Urge, in addition to Furbish, Studio 123 and other groups such as the exciting new online publication bit + grain. When women are supporting women like this, amazing things can and do happen -- and I can’t wait to see what is in store for Raleigh in the next few years!

Favorite piece of clothing right now I essentially morphed into current-day Diane Keaton when I turned 30 - all I wear is some iteration of linen when I’m not at work. But I’m excited to break out my new emerald green leather bomber jacket when the temperatures dip in a month or so.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this year Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.

Last place you traveled Las Vegas for an epic bachelorette party
What did you bring back A depleted bank account and fewer brain cells

What book are you reading right now Die Empty and The Martian
What is the farthest you have been from home Warsaw, Poland for a business trip last year

Taylor Swift or Nicki Minaj Love them both too much to choose.
If you were a boxer, what song would you walk out to Hustlin’ by Rick Ross

Necessary extravagance My husband will tell you I can convince you that everything is necessary. But hiring someone other than me to clean our house is up there.
Simple indulgence Fresh cut flowers for the house each week and regular brow waxes.

What’s coming up that you’re excited about Our upcoming trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast in October!
