make sure your table is eggcellent

both of my grandmother's were a force in the kitchen.  whether we celebrated easter around my granny louise's worn round pedestal table right in the middle of the kitchen, with mismatched chairs and a red plaid tablecloth, reaching over to the oven for seconds, or on the farm in virigina, at my granny kathleen's stately heirloom table in a dining room with mauve carpet, white lace valances on the windows and striped candies piled high in footed glass jars on the marble buffet - we ate like kings.

ham, deviled eggs, macaroni and cheese, perfectly sour canned green beans, homemade biscuits -- all the southern staples -- followed with pies, cakes, more than you could stand but still had to have.

my easter tradition has been in flux the last few years (i'll be in kansas city, a guest and speaker at their design week) - but if you are lucky enough to have your family gathered round whatever table it may be in a couple of weekends from now, we've rounded up a few of our prettiest entertaining pieces that will make the special day even more savory.
